JOB TITLE: Senior Analyst, Sustainability

JOB SUMMARY:

The goal of the sustainability department is to contribute to FFO growth by reducing the energy usage at our properties, developing projects that reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, mitigating risks associated with climate change, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations affecting our portfolio.  This role will contribute to the analytical components of the team, including supporting data reporting, financing, and inventory efforts, as well as developing and using tools to decide team priorities.  This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 3-5 years of analytical experience, ideally in a real estate or sustainability role, to support dynamic and growing sustainability and ESG (Environmental Social Governance) departments. This individual will work with other departments within the organization, including asset management and operations, but primarily support the sustainability team.

Please note that this job position may require in-person office requirements for a minimum of 3 days per week: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, located at Essex's corporate offices in Irvine, Woodland Hills, San Mateo, and Bellevue.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Support the Sustainability team in collecting and updating project data for strategic sustainability planning.

  • Develop, maintain, and implement calculators and dashboards to support project execution and prioritization.

  • Analyze and report consumption data.

  • Aid with quarterly data assurance process and providing analytics updates for ESG reporting.

  • Own and manage databases of key information used in decision-making and provide recommendations to management.

  • Investigate and remain up to date on environmental regulations and financial incentives and rebates in the portfolio’s jurisdictions.

  • Work with business/end users to gather requirements for tools and reports.

  • Maintain working relationships with internal departments to ensure key objectives are achieved.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year university or college in engineering, mathematics, financial analysis, or other related discipline required.

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in financial analysis and planning for real estate.

  • Be an Expert in Microsoft Excel and presentation programs (including PowerPoint).

  • Proficiency in BI reporting.

  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work with others.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to independently identify opportunities to contribute to team goals.

  • Ability to work effectively both remotely and in-person.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required.

WHAT THE JOB REQUIRES:

  • Operates in a fast-paced work setting. Requires the ability to multitask and adapt quickly to changing priorities. May involve tight deadlines and high-energy work situations.

  • Work is primarily conducted in an office setting. Requires sitting at a desk or workstation for extended periods. Involves the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.

  • Requires the ability to work Monday through Friday

  • Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Minimal physical effort in the day-to-day tasks.

  • This role does not require any travel; work is primarily conducted at the office.

The salary range for this position is $95,000.00 - $142,000.00 per year. New hires generally start between $95,000.00 - $119,000.00 per year. The final salary offer will be determined after reviewing relevant factors, including but not limited to skill sets; relevant experience; internal equity; and other business and organizational needs.

This role is also eligible to participate in Essex’s discretionary Annual Bonus program that is commensurate with the level of the position.
