Essex Property Trust is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sr. Director of Culture to join our team and lead our efforts in creating a thriving and vibrant workplace environment. The Sr. Director of Culture will play a crucial role in developing and executing a comprehensive culture strategy that aligns with our company's mission and values, ensuring the well-being, engagement, development and growth of our employees.

As the Sr. Director of Culture, you will work in partnership with internal teams to build and execute on initiatives that lead to an exceptional company culture and employee experience including Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Engagement, Wellness and DEI. This role will be a key leader contributing to the success of the Human Capital Management mission to enhance the Company culture.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Communications
    • Oversee teams including Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Culture and Experience.
    • Develop, communicate, and implement the organization's culture strategy to support the overall business goals in alignment and collaboration with Executive Leadership.
    • Lead a Culture oriented team and partner with Human Resources leaders.
    • Ensure the consistency of communications and branding for culture programming.
  • Talent Acquisition and Development
    • Ensure Talent Acquisition strategy is executed on with a well-developed pipeline of candidates.
    • Link Talent Acquisition strategy to Talent Development using key metrics and business objectives. Regularly report to Sr. Leadership on progress.
    • Deliver high-quality performance, succession planning, and engagement survey annual processes.
    • Develop Talent Development program for senior leadership.
    • Broaden Talent Management program to onsite associates.
  • Employee Engagement and Well-being:
    • Deliver an exceptional employee experience using technology, vendors, innovation, and other resources.
    • Design, manage and implement Wellness program initiatives to support overall associate well-being.
    • Critically analyze engagement survey data and feedback analytics, then draw upon this information to guide the team’s priorities.
    • Oversee employee events held at Essex to ensure a strong connection to culture, engagement and values.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I):
    • Partner with leadership on DE&I initiatives, ensuring that the workplace is a diverse and inclusive environment where associates feel valued, respected, and included.
    • Develop and track key performance indicators to measure progress in diversity and inclusion efforts. Organize training programs and awareness campaigns.
    • Support the development and expansion of Employee Resource Groups (ERG).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Proven experience in a similar senior HR or Culture leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to drive change, influence, and manage conflicts effectively.
  • A passion for creating and maintaining a positive workplace culture.

The salary range for this position is $170,000.00 - $272,000.00 per year. New hires generally start between $170,000.00 - $221,000.00 per year. The final salary offer will be determined after reviewing relevant factors, including but not limited to skill sets; relevant experience; internal equity; and other business and organizational needs.

This role is also eligible to participate in Essex’s discretionary Annual Bonus program that is commensurate with the level of the position.
