Property Tax Manager

We are in search of a resourceful, efficient, detail-oriented accounting professional and team player to join our corporate tax team in our Chicago headquarters as Property Tax Manager. As Property Tax Manager, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the property tax bill tracking/payment facet within the property tax department as well as related assessment and appeal activity. Additionally, you will be responsible for supervising property tax support personnel, preparing, maintaining and analyzing Same Store and GAAP budgets and reforecasts. Each day will be unique, requiring an ability to think strategically, be creative, take initiative, and employ a diverse set of skills.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Prepare, maintain, analyze and deliver/present the department’s national budget reforecast data for earnings call use on an as needed and definitive quarterly basis for the portfolio
  • Attend and participate in all quarterly budget reforecast meetings with accounting and property management departments
  • Provide detailed calendar year property tax budget guidance including projected value and rate estimates while utilizing all available resources, including local consultant guidance prior to finalizing assumptions
  • Prepare quarterly update to management including – industry trends, pending and completed appeal activity, budget reforecast and impact on same store results
  • Prepare quarterly reforecast file in order for accounting personnel to analyze and record adjustments by property, including consulting fees and supplemental accruals
  • Manage the property tax bill tracking/payment facet and the property tax assessment/appeals facet within the property tax department relating to both real and personal property taxes
  • Supervise property tax support personnel in accordance with the property tax department requirements
  • Track, review/approve, and process all property tax bills and outside consultant and non-property tax related invoices
  • Track and process all property tax refunds and related information
  • Foster teamwork by maintaining cooperative relationships with others by contributing to a positive work environment, facilitating the resolution of conflicts, sharing information, and accepting and providing constructive feedback
  • Provide efficient and effective level of service on a daily basis for both internal and external customers
  • Identify and provide records and respond to inquiries from other departments, clients or companies including, but not limited to, legal, operations, due diligence, internal control, operations and management
  • Cross train department members on an as-needed basis
 
REQUIREMENTS 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounts payable and property tax as well as accurate data entry skills required.
  • Must be flexible, detail-oriented and able to organize daily work volumes.
  • Sense of urgency relating to deadlines in conjunction with strong attention to detail required.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, work independently while meeting deadlines, good communication skills and the ability to interact with internal and external people on a professional level.
  • Must be able to prepare correspondence utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google.
  • Knowledge of Gmail, Google Drive, OneSource and MRI preferred.
