AvalonBay’s Maintenance Apprenticeship Program is a 90 day on-the-job training program designed for individuals seeking to pursue a career in apartment maintenance. As an apprentice you will gain valuable hands-on experience in 5 key categories: Safety, Electrical, Plumbing, Appliances, and Carpentry. If you're interested in learning about the property management industry from a maintenance perspective, this may be the perfect opportunity for you!
This is a thirteen week program from (Insert Month) until (Insert Month).

Education:
• No previous working education required

Experience:
• No previous working experience required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to communicate with our associates and residents in order to provide customer service.
• Ability to read and understand policies and procedures including but not limited to Key Control Policy, Apartment Home Turnover Policy and all Maintenance Emergency policies and procedures.
• Ability to identify cleaning and chemical supplies, ability to read and understand Hazard Communication Safety Data Sheets (SDS), ability to understand proper applications of chemicals and general cleaning supplies and ability to frequently handle these products.
• Ability to occasionally operate general office equipment such as, but not limited to, personal computer, tablet, telephone, and photocopying machine.
• Ability to operate computer systems such as, but not limited to, Kronos and KeyTrak.Finish
• Ability to perform calculations involving basic math (e.g., adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing; working with fractions, decimals, and percentages) with the use of a calculator.
• Ability to regularly and consistently report on time, work assigned scheduled and accurately document/verify time worked.

Physical Demands:
• Ability to frequently lift and transport up to 60 pounds variable distances, the mobility and flexibility to use required equipment and to access and work in restricted spaces or at heights in excess of 8 – 9 feet.
• Ability to frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and climb (stairs, ladders, etc.).Ability to frequently use general maintenance tools, supplies and equipment such as, but not limited to, hand tools, power tools, pressure washers, blowers, paint equipment, pool chemicals, ice removal equipment, ladders, waste management systems such as trash compactors, waste caddies, pallet jacks, carts, landscaping equipment, sandblasters, and safety equipment.
• Ability to operate motorized vehicles such as, but not limited to, a car, truck, van or golf cart, where applicable.

Working Environment:
• Normal office environment

Licenses/Certifications:
• None required

Training:
• Execution of the Apprentice Learning Guide within prescribed dates.
• Satisfactory completion of 15 OJT courses in AVBU.
• Any other applicable training assigned by the manager.
