Development Associate

As a Development Associate, you will be responsible for overseeing the development of new apartment communities from inception through final project completion and closeout. Under the general direction of the VP of Development, this position assists in the origination of new development projects, including site visits and analyzing potential opportunities.

- Responsible for souring deals in the New York Metro market.
- Assist the VP of Development in conducting Due Diligence, Development for area projects and provide support for on-site due diligence or special projects.
- Prepare underwriting presentation for Executive Committee review. Prepare written presentation to Board of Trustees.
- Prepare underwriting model for all assigned development projects.
- Receive, analyze and update all costs, rent levels, unit mix, expenses, income assumptions, and market information on existing projects.
- Assist VP of Development in preparation of final project underwriting budget, schedule, and processing and obtaining all project approvals from appropriate jurisdictions.
- Attend team meetings with VP of development, key personnel and consultants on the development’s progress and recommend necessary changes. Also provides regular status reports on pending projects.
- Represent Equity Residential in a professional manner at all times. Consistently maintains a professional courteous attitude when dealing with residents, coworkers and the general public.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
- Experience sourcing deals in the New York Metro market
- Bachelor’s Degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business or Design Disciplines such as Architecture or Urban Planning, with 5-7 years of related real estate experience required
- Familiarity with reporting of market conditions and development opportunities in these markets is necessary
- Must possess strong analytical skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills and knowledge of work processes, spreadsheets and EQR systems
- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and technical expertise with complex modeling
