Building Engineer

Job Requirements

To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform all essential functions satisfactorily. High school equivalent with college and/or trade/technical/vocational school training or a combination of education and recent relevant experience. Recent experience in aspects of commercial building maintenance required.
HVAC certification may be required. Valid driver’s license if required to operate a licensed motor vehicle in order to perform the job duties.
Must have a general working knowledge of commercial buildings and advanced understanding of HVAC, electrical and plumbing. Knowledge of landscaping, janitorial maintenance, security and general construction required. Must be skilled in the use of various power tools and be computer literate. Must be able to manage and motivate people and communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a variety of internal contacts, vendors and contractors. Must be detail oriented, organized and able to multi-task.

This job is a labor position and considered heavy in physical requirements. Must be able to constantly stand, walk, bend at the neck, reach waist to shoulder, grasp and use dominant hand; frequently lift up to 40 pounds, pull/push up to 50 pounds, climb ladders or stairs, kneel/squat, twist body, reach above shoulders or below waist and repeat motions and perform fine finger manipulations.

Must be able to concentrate on moderate detail with little interruption. Must be able to remember simple task assignments given at the beginning of a period of time extending for several days.

The work involves indoor and outdoor activities with exposure to seasonal weather and the associated temperature fluctuations. Frequent exposure to airborne dust, paint fumes and the chemicals used in surface preparation and general maintenance work.
