Want to join an industry leading multi-family REIT? Equity Residential, an S&P 500 real estate company, is in search of a resourceful, efficient, detail-oriented financial professional and team player to join our Accounting team in our Chicago, Illinois office  as a Staff Accountant.

The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting the Senior Accountant and Manager in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements for EQR and other reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”). Prepare quarterly and annual work papers in accordance with GAAP. The Staff Accountant is also responsible for day to day functions.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Prepares and assists in filing the Equity quarterly and annual financial statements and other reports as filed with the SEC on forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, and SR.
Prepares certain work papers needed to support certain balances included in Equity’s financial statements.
Records any quarterly entries which are necessary to adjust the property detail to a GAAP basis.
Responsible for updating the fixed asset system for all assets capitalized monthly and depreciates all assets quarterly.
Records property acquisitions or dispositions on the general ledger system and prepares supporting work papers to be reviewed by senior accountant.
Reconciles various intercompany accounts and follows up with appropriate parties to clear any balances.
Responsible for preparing ancillary income journal entries and reconciling the associated liability accounts on a monthly basis.
Prepares special audit work papers, bank confirmations, etc., as well as general auditor assistance in fielding questions and gathering supporting work papers and schedules quarterly.
Assists in compiling of financial information on Equity to be provided to inside parties.
Reviews Daily Cash reports, transactions and associated journal entries in order to ensure proper coding.

REQUIREMENTS  
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in accounting.
0-1 year applicable general accounting experience.
Must possess good verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to perform under pressure to achieve the timely filing of SEC reports.
Computer literacy required - Intermediate excel skills required, Google Apps, and previous experience working in accounting systems is strongly preferred.
