Temporary Recruiter

Chicago, IL

Working for Equity Residential (EQR), a leading multi-family real estate investment trust (REIT) headquartered in downtown Chicago, means being part of a community and striving to provide the best in apartment living, speaking boldly about new ideas for innovation, and inspiring creativity in the ways we work together. Our portfolio of high-quality properties in growth markets –New York City, Boston, Washington DC, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles, to name a few– provides homes where people most want to live. We've got the best people in the business, and our experience shows in our dedication to residents and in how much we value each other as colleagues. That’s why our employees say they are proud to work at Equity, a company that knows how to “Live Remarkably”. That’s what our Be.Think.Play.Live. culture is all about.

We are currently seeking a full-time temporary Recruiter to join the Corporate Talent Acquisition team, under the general supervision of the Director of Talent Acquisition. During this temporary assignment (anticipated to be July through November 2018), you will be responsible for the overall sourcing, recruitment, and placement of candidates for assigned requisitions in order to support our current and future corporate staffing needs.

As a Recruiter, you will develop and use a variety of proven recruiting strategies to fill job openings in a timely manner and ensure strategic, creative, cost-effective candidate sourcing, while managing the candidate experience. Primary job functions include (but are not limited to): building and maintaining a corporate candidate pipeline through sourcing and outreach; screening, interviewing, and hiring candidates for assigned requisitions; coordinating the logistics of the interview and hiring process between candidates and hiring managers; partnering with third party agencies as applicable, and analyzing results of Equity Residential’s corporate recruiting strategies.

WHO YOU ARE
  • A People Person and Relationship Builder. You are a good connector, who loves to meet new people and knows how to leverage opportunities to network and turn them into business results. You genuinely like people and enjoy dealing with a variety of personalities on a daily basis. And since recruiting is a relationship business, you consistently deliver on the services you promised, within a certain timeframe, both to build your rapport and uphold your professional recruiting cred.
  • A Strong Communicator. You have a way with words, whether face-to-face, on the phone, or via email. You are always tactful, considerate, and gracious in order to maintain a professional reputation. You also deliver your messages with confidence, which helps you to successfully promote opportunities to jobseekers, deliver respected recommendations to internal business partners, and negotiate offers effectively.
  • Organized and Accountable. You multitask well and know how to juggle multiple requisitions, tasks, and projects simultaneously in order to make the biggest impact and work as efficiently and effectively as possible. Having great time management skills is essential because certain positions need to be filled urgently and getting your priorities right is paramount. You also take great notes and are experienced in working with numerous candidates on a daily basis, keeping in mind the details of various jobs and the various stages of each requisition, while also making sure to keep detailed and reliable interview records.
  • Inquisitive with Great Listening Skills. You are an active listener, complete with the ability to ask pointed, relevant, and clarifying questions so that you can deliver on expectations. You have an innate ability to filter through a laundry-list of requirements and decipher which are truly motivating factors. Similarly, you can read between the lines of candidate responses in order to best identify the right skills match and culture fit. In short, it’s obvious to you that successful recruiting starts and ends with listening, which you tend to do twice as much as you speak.
  • Tech-Savvy. Tools like email and internet access start as basic necessities in your daily operation. You love all things Google and are comfortable navigating through an HRIS/ATS. You also have a solid understanding of available recruiting tools, so you use the right “bait” to lure your “catch”.
  • Flexible and Adaptable. You are comfortable living in the grey and embrace change.  You adapt your communication style depending on your client’s or candidate’s needs, shift your approach based on changes with your requisitions, and are always ready to learn about new technologies that affect the markets you serve. You don’t get stressed easily when there is more to do than time allows - you like the challenge.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Build, manage, and maintain a candidate pipeline for more effective candidate placement and overall quicker time to fill. Develop and implement a passive candidate recruiting strategy. Research, identify, and establish business relationships with diverse talent sources in local markets, as appropriate.
  • Implement recruiting and selection strategies for assigned corporate requisitions.  This includes screening resumes and conducting initial phone screens with candidates for employment as well as scheduling and conducting in-person and/or video interviews for all assigned corporate requisitions.
  • Guide managers in the hiring and selection process and act as an ongoing resource and consultant to internal clients/hiring managers.
  • Act as a strategic business partner by collaborating with corporate client groups to address challenges with staffing and/or retention.
  • Provide effective, thorough, and timely communication to candidates, internal business partners, and all levels of management.
  • Prepare recruiting reports and identify recruiting trends for corporate recruitment efforts; analyze results of recruiting strategies and report trends to internal business partners.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for Equity Residential, pursuing opportunities to become embedded in local market and effectively sharing company, culture, and value information with prospective employees to position Equity Residential as an employer of choice.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS & PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years previous recruitment experience required; in-house technical recruitment experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to speak and write in a clear and articulate manner.
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized, in addition to having strong skills in customer service, the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously, and decision making.
  • Must be computer proficient, tech savvy, and able to learn new software upgrades and enhancements. Familiarity with HRIS/ATS (Taleo, PeopleSoft, Oracle, Fusion, etc.) and Google applications a plus. Must also demonstrate success in leveraging social media for hiring activities (LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Twitter, Facebook, etc.).
