We are currently looking for a Director of Cash Operations in our Customer Care Center in Virginia Beach, VA.

The Role

The Director Cash Operations is responsible for the strategic direction and operating performance of AvalonBay’s centralized Disbursement, Cash Receipt and Cash Management functions. This position will work closely with AvalonBay’s Accounting and Procurement and Finance Departments to ensure adherence to the company’s internal controls and accounting policies.  The position also oversees the Payment Services team, which collects rent payments from our residents.    

  1. Provide strategic oversight of Cash Management functions, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams by establishing sound procedures, technological systems, and policies
  2. Ensure compliance with internal controls, including maintenance and certification of controls to meet Sarbanes-Oxley requirements over cash and cash disbursement functions
  3. Oversee management of cash accounts and support of cash position forecasting
  4. Ensure the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable
  5. Oversee cash management banking and financial institution relationships. Negotiate bank and service fees. Implement new bank technologies, products and services to improve cash cycle and simplify company operations.
  6. Review electronic payment funding detail and notifications
  7. Collaborate with Finance to complete execution of cash forecasting, investment and borrowing activities.
  8. Collaborate with Procurement on vendor initiatives and corporate policy
  9. Manage the Cash management, Account Payable and Account
  10. All other tasks as assigned by the manager.

You Have...

Our ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Education: A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related discipline from an accredited 4-year university or college.


  • At least 8 + years in a finance  (with a banking focus) environment in a leadership role
  • Previous oversight of treasury functions
  • Previous experience in disbursement and cash receipt management

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Possesses a strong knowledge of disbursement processing and internal controls
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office products
  • Basic knowledge of accounting terminology and systems
  • Superior time management and organizational skills
  • Manage, develop, and mentor team members
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Possesses strong initiative
  • Works independently and seeks out areas for personal and process improvement.
  • Ability to work well with Accounting and Finance teams and other departments including senior management
  • Possesses strong analytical skills
  • Strong sense of teamwork and work ethic demonstrated
