Assistant Controller

San Francisco, CA

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Maintain company financial policies & procedures by providing direction to accounting functions 
  • Manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly & annual consolidated financial statements including results analysis 
  • Assist with periodic forecasting, annual budget process and other ad hoc financial analysis 
  • Manage and coach property accounting staff, serving as escalation point in resolution of complex financial transactions 
  • Responsible for cash management, including cash flow, bank reconciliation review, cash receipts and AR audits 
  • Manage accounting staff in monthly reconciliation of GL accounts to ensure accuracy of accounting records 
  • Assist with development, review & maintenance of internal controls for the company 
  • Coordinate and review month end close process for all reporting entities & locations 
  • Cooperate with external auditors as needed 
  • Prepare and submit miscellaneous tax compliance filings
  • Participate in staff & other meetings with internal & external business partners 
  • Assist in training staff on new accounting policies and procedures 
  • Work closely with corporate operations staff to ensure accurate & timely financial reporting 
  • Always work with attention to detail, efficiency & ability to adjust as priorities change 
  • Other duties as assigned by management 

Preferred Knowledge and Skills 

  • Public accounting and CPA license 
  • Real estate or property management experience as it relates to accounting 
  • YARDI software experience 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting 
  • 5 years accounting experience, including prior experience managing staff 
  • Strong knowledge of account reconciliation, AP/AR and payroll processing 
  • Technical and detailed knowledge of finance, financial planning, GAAP accounting and tax 
  • Experience with multi-entity & multi-site accounting & reporting 
  • Excellent computer skills including intermediate/advanced MS Excel knowledge 
  • Demonstrates ability to be highly accurate and shows pride in work product 
  • Ability to work under pressure while remaining professional with internal and external customers & peers
