Assistant Controller

Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain company financial policies & procedures by providing direction to accounting functions
- Manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly & annual consolidated financial statements including results analysis
- Assist with periodic forecasting, annual budget process and other ad hoc financial analysis
- Manage and coach property accounting staff, serving as escalation point in resolution of complex financial transactions
- Responsible for cash management, including cash flow, bank reconciliation review, cash receipts and AR audits
- Manage accounting staff in monthly reconciliation of GL accounts to ensure accuracy of accounting records
- Assist with development, review & maintenance of internal controls for the company
- Coordinate and review month end close process for all reporting entities & locations
- Cooperate with external auditors as needed
- Prepare and submit miscellaneous tax compliance filings
- Participate in staff & other meetings with internal & external business partners
- Assist in training staff on new accounting policies and procedures
- Work closely with corporate operations staff to ensure accurate & timely financial reporting
- Always work with attention to detail, efficiency & ability to adjust as priorities change
- Other duties as assigned by management
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Public accounting and CPA license
- Real estate or property management experience as it relates to accounting
- YARDI software experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- 5 years accounting experience, including prior experience managing staff
- Strong knowledge of account reconciliation, AP/AR and payroll processing
- Technical and detailed knowledge of finance, financial planning, GAAP accounting and tax
- Experience with multi-entity & multi-site accounting & reporting
- Excellent computer skills including intermediate/advanced MS Excel knowledge
- Demonstrates ability to be highly accurate and shows pride in work product
- Ability to work under pressure while remaining professional with internal and external customers & peers
