The Operations Manager (OM) facilitates the overall operation of the six building, 1,229 bed student community while maintaining a positive and collaborative partnership with Northern Michigan University (NMU).

This new state-of-the-art facility brings an innovative living-learning component to the campus. Designed in concert with university and Honors department leadership, the Honors Hall provides a distinct home for the Honors program and its students. There are active learning spaces which can be used for classes, special programs and study groups along with program support space and offices.

The Operations Manager provides the overall leadership for a comprehensive housing facilities program. The OM works directly with Northern Michigan University, including Residence Life and University facilities, to support the University’s academic mission and strategic priorities. The OM oversees approximately 12 fulltime employees and a multimillion-dollar operating budget.

The OM serves as a direct link between NMU, Greystar, students and facility management and building operations. He/she is responsible for positively contributing to a high quality, living-learning residential experience for students.

Specific responsibilities include the oversight of all budget and administrative activities, human resources, rent collection, and facilities management. Specifically, the OM is responsible for departmental oversite of all maintenance and custodial operations for all 1,229 beds. The OM works alongside Residence Life to help support the student experience. The OM serves as liaison to the Greystar Regional Property Manager, Northern Michigan University Housing and Residence Life, Dining, Safety and Security, etc. Additionally, the OM is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of departmental budgets. The OM is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating all student-focused systems and processes that support student retention, mirror institutional thinking, and support the operational and financial goals of Greystar and University Housing and Residence Life.



Education

Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred, with 6-9 years of experience or training or a combination of experience/training in university and/or housing operations setting.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred, with 6-9 years of experience or training or a combination of experience/training in university and/or housing operations setting.
  • Familiarity with database systems such as Yardi, THD, and SAP
  • Budgetary experience
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and customer service skills
