ASSISTANT CONTROLLER - INVESTMENTS

POSITION OVERVIEW  

Ensures the integrity of the corporate financial statements. Provides oversight and review of the corporate, fund accounting duties, and family office. Provides oversight and control of cash management and treasury functions at the corporate level. Responsible for the integrity of financial reporting to external investors.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee accounting for upper tier JV and fund entities. Work with investment management team to oversee quarterly fair value reporting on investment portfolios.  
  • Ensure that all investment entity financial statements are in compliance with US GAAP and any official guidelines and requirements  
  • Work with fund administrator in reviewing and coordinating distribution of investor reports including quarterly financials, management letters and capital account statements.   
  • Responsible for direct supervision and management of Senior Accountant in charge of JV / Fund level reporting and family office accountant.   
  • Manage the audit process for funds and investment portfolios  
  • Work with outside 3rd parties in order to ensure compliance with any REIT regulations, as applicable, and help lead process for any investor K-1 review and filings.   
  • Support all aspects of the corporate accounting management including operating companies, hotels, restaurant, and warehouse  
  • Oversee corporate accounting team by providing direction and guidance to an accounting manager and two direct reports  
  • Assist with the preparation of corporate budgets   
  • Oversee accounting for the family office and all family investment entities and any external reporting requirements (guarantor reporting, etc).  
  • Assist with treasury management  
  • Ensure financial statement accuracy by providing oversight and review of monthly reporting process completed by accountants.  
  • Responsible for identifying areas for improvement in corporate, fund accounting, and family office processes as well as assisting in implementing policies, procedures and systems.   

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES   

  • BA/ BS at 4-year university (focus in accounting, finance, economics preferred)   
  • CPA or Masters in Accounting preferred  
  • Background in public accounting (preferred)  
  • Real Estate accounting experience (preferred)  
  • 2 years of management experience (preferred)  
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP   
  • Experience in developing, writing, and implementing accounting controls and processes  
  • Skills and experience using accounting software (Yardi a plus)  
  • Punctual, courteous, professional, and reliable.  
  • Deadline-oriented  
  • Detail-oriented and willing to learn  
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.   
  • Advanced experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Internet Explorer Outlook)  
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
