Claims Representative, Risk Management

Irvine, CA

Western National Group (WNG) is a real estate firm specializing in multifamily housing looking to fill a Claims Representative position at our Corporate Office in Irvine, CA.

Duties and Essential Job Functions: 

  • Inputs and creates claim files and follows standard claims handling procedures.
  • Generates reports and maintains claim notes and correspondence regarding claim file activity and communications on the claims database.
  • Monitors a variety of claim files (1st and 3rd party property, liability, and litigated claims) and maintains a daily running diary.
  • Manages file inventory to ensure timely resolution of claims.
  • Performs property inspections as needed, including accessing and inspecting all areas of a dwelling or structure
  • Completes field inspection of losses including accurate scope of damages, photographs, written estimates of damages, as needed.
  • Analyzes information gathered by investigation and reports findings and recommendations.
  • Investigates and evaluates all relevant facts to determine coverage, damages and  liability of 1st and 3rd party property, general liability and auto claims; and files claims as needed with carriers.
  • Establishes timely and accurate claim and expense reserves.
  • Communicates with internal departments, claimants, attorneys and insurance companies over the telephone, in person, and in written correspondence.
  • Makes settlement recommendations and negotiates claims settlements to avoid litigation.
  • Prepares demand/denial letters as needed and drafts offer letters and releases.
  • Creates statements of loss.
  • Ensures signed releases are received prior to issuing settlement funds and creates check requests and requests settlement monies from Accounts Payables.
  • Follows-up with insurance adjusters and provides information needed to expedite settlement or insurance recovery.
  • Coordinates agreed scope/estimate of damages with independent insurance adjusters, vendors or contractors on large losses.
  • Reviews incoming attorney letters and lawsuits and attends mediations as needed.
  • Represents WNG entities at Small Claims court hearings.
  • Provides excellent customer service to meet the needs of the insured, 3rd party owners, and all other internal and external customers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Excellent written, verbal communication and oral presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, excellent computer skills and typing ability.
  • Aptitude to apply general knowledge of contract, property and/or insurance laws.
  • Demonstrates superior level of attention to detail and organization, multi-tasks and prioritizes work, meets deadlines, and manages changing priorities effectively.
  • Excellent customer service skills, empathizes with, actively listens to, and deals sensitively and professionally with claimants.
  • Some construction knowledge.
  • Some understanding of real estate management.
  • High school graduate, with a  2 year degree, 4 year degree preferred
  • Must have at least five-seven years of claims experienced
