We are searching for a Learning and Development Manager to join our team. This position will report to the Senior Director of Learning and Development and be based in our Arlington, VA corporate headquarters.
The Role
In this position, you will play an integral role in AvalonBay’s Learning and Development team, both in delivering and developing learning solutions. You will be expected to partner with business leaders to identify and prioritize learning and development needs. You will also design, develop/source, implement, and evaluate learning solutions to maximize associate performance. This role is well suited to those who enjoy working on a variety of projects in a collaborative team with the following responsibilities:
- Facilitate instructor led classroom training programs including, but not limited to: Corporate Orientation, Customer Service, Sales, Management, Leadership, and Interviewing Skills.
- Manage programs (e.g., schedules, communication) to support delivery of training as appropriate.
- Consult with business clients on performance issues; conduct needs assessments and analyze learning needs related to business knowledge, management/leadership skills, interpersonal skills and professional skills (e.g., influence, presentation, writing)
- Design, develop/source and implement blended learning solutions in a variety of delivery modes including online and instructor led training.
- Partner with internal experts, external vendors and/or academic institutions to execute training strategies.
- Evaluate program effectiveness to maintain quality and impact; recommend changes to clients and implement as needed.
- Work with clients and colleagues to design appropriate systems to track training and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Support design and implementation of Human Resource and Learning and Development initiatives as needed.
- Incorporate knowledge of industry trends and best practices in performance of job responsibilities.
This is an individual contributor role with up to 30% training delivery and approximately 10-15% travel.
You Have...
A Bachelor’s degree is required in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Human Resource Development, Business Administration or a related area. An advanced degree is preferred.
- 5-7 years of experience in Learning and Development field including instructional design, delivery and consulting in a corporate environment.
- Experience in facilitation/delivery of instructor led training.
- Experience as a people manager.
- Knowledge of adult learning theory.
- Ability to collect and analyze data to effectively support performance improvement recommendations and solutions.
- Proven ability to think strategically to design and develop learning solutions to close gaps between current and desired skill levels as demonstrated by current or past work experience.
- Ability to manage projects, build relationships, communicate (verbal and written) and collaborate.
Desired:
- Experience in Financial Services, Professional Services, Real Estate or Hospitality industries is a plus.
- Experience in facilitation/delivery of online/webinar sessions is a plus.
- Previous experience working with a learning management system is a plus.
- Experience with instructional technology/media tools (e.g., Captivate, Adobe Suite, Articulate) and online learning development methods is a plus.
