Global Investment Accountant

Job Description
As a Greystar Investment Group (GIG) Corporate Accountant there are specific key roles and responsibilities that are required to meet and exceed expectations that will be used to evaluate performance.

Cash Management
In the accountant role, a major objective is to oversee and manage the day to day cash transactions of each corporate account that is assigned. This includes but is not limited to daily oversight of bank accounts, understanding the online banking platforms, entering transactions into Oracle and on the Cash Spreadsheet on a timely basis; preparing weekly cash request and check request; and completing monthly bank reconciliations.

Financial Reporting
The financial reporting process is an integral part of investment accounting. Currently, the department reports financials in accordance US GAAP. The accountant’s monthly responsibilities include recording recurring and adjusting journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, reviewing expenses and providing variance explanations. The accountant prepares a monthly Income Statement Reporting Package that is presented to management. The accountant is also responsible for assisting with any ad hoc report requests.

Expense Management
The accountant reviews all invoices, travel expenses and intercompany reimbursement billings to ensure the expense should be recorded on Greystar Investment Group’s income statement or billed back to another Greystar entity, fund, internal department or project. The accountant is responsible for maintaining a reconciliation of reimbursement billing and including the items on a monthly ACH file or intercompany file.

Expense Approvals
Greystar uses the Expense Anywhere (EA) software program for expense reporting. After direct supervisors approve the expense reports in EA, the accountant is responsible for verifying the expense reports adhere to Greystar’s expense reimbursement policy and include proper documentation and account coding. The accountant reviews a weekly batch spreadsheet of all approved expenses and uploads the detail to the general ledger. The accountant is responsible for billing back all travel expenses related to another Greystar entity, fund, internal department or project.

Audit Support
On a quarterly and annual basis, Investment Accounting supplies information and reporting as requested by external auditors and Greystar’s internal Compliance Department. The accountant should ensure accuracy of requested reports and upload them to the auditor’s designated site.

Financial Planning
The accountant assists with the budgeting and reforecasting process for Global Practice groups. Along with assisting in compiling Global Investment Management Business plans.

Organization Responsibilities
Accountant is expected to follow established policies and procedures by monitoring and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, organization standard, and operational processes related to area(s) of responsibility and reporting violations or infractions to appropriate individuals. Also identify areas for improvement and offers suggestions to improve efficiency and productivity. Keeping current with technology, processes and standards while attending internal and external training classes.

Education

College degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field, and/or equivalent experience is highly preferred.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in an accounting role.
  • Good level of general education with excellent written and numerical skills.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting procedures.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
    Experience with Oracle would be a plus.
  • International experience would be a plus.
  • Investment accounting experience preferred, but not required.
  • A combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the application and usage of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
