Responsibilities

Essex, a multi-family REIT, is seeking a Manager for the Internal Reporting & Process Improvement Team located in San Mateo, California. The position includes managing a small team of financial analysts focused on high-quality, financial reporting for Executives and other decision-makers of the Company. This position assists with management of the Corporate Budget process and related reporting as well as maintaining the Team's desktop procedures. The applicant should have extensive knowledge of Accounting and advanced Excel skills.

Responsibilities include:

• Manage a small team of financial analysts and lead them in developing, building and timely delivery of financial reporting for Internal Customers including Budget Analysis
• Execute Quarterly Corporate Variance Analysis and Reforecasting
• Plan and lead training, support and analysis for Departments during the Corporate Budgeting process
• Maintain documentation related to the Team's desktop procedures
• Assist in the analysis and implementation of Process Improvement initiatives
• Ad Hoc Reporting and financial support as needed
• Other duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or equivalent
• 5+ years of GAAP Accounting experience - Real Estate Accounting a plus
• Has previous personnel management  experience
• Working knowledge of budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis
• Organized, good attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Great interpersonal skills including communication, mentorship and coaching
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, with emphasis on robust Excel skills (i.e. IF, Pivot Tables, Vlookups, Hlookups, Index, Match, Concatenate,  etc.)
• Experience with real estate accounting software, Yardi or MRI, a plus
