Manager, Property Accounting & Financial Analysis
Responsibilities
In this position, you will manage accounting staff to ensure accurate and timely data for property accounting (residential and commercial). Help develop and maintain compliance with policies and procedures. Manage the Accounting Help Desk. Help provide financial analysis for Executive Management as needed.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise staff for Fixed Assets and Property Accounting Commercial - two Supervisors and two Property Accountants
- Manage monthly, quarterly and annual close process to ensure timely and accurate reporting for the Commercial portfolio and Fixed Assets
- Review financial statement variances during month-end and ensure that accounting transactions are complete and balances are accurate
- Provide analytical support for the executive management team
- Analyze current and past trends in key performance areas highlighting trends and analyzing the causes of unexpected variances.
- Provides guidance and support to other accountants, as needed. Serves as a resource and assists with escalated issues.
- Coordinate with property accounting, construction accounting, and corporate accounting staff to ensure closes are timely
- Review journal entries and posting to the company’s accounting system
- Coordinate, direct and guide the team to research items and to properly explain variances
- Assist with the preparation of accounting & management reports for executive distribution as needed
- Review balance sheet account reconciliations, including ensuring that outstanding items are cleared in a timely manner
- Directly manage the Accounting Help Desk, which includes addressing all accounting-related inquiries from Operations’ Regional Property Managers
- Communicate professionally with lead operational management
- Work closely with accounting management on process improvement projects
- Assist with the quarterly audit process by providing schedules and responding to inquiries from company’s external auditors
- Mentor, train and monitor staff
- Assist with internal and external audit requests as needed
- Assist with other ad hoc requests and projects as needed
- Review and assist with annual budgeting as needed
Requirements
A valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance is required.
Qualifications
- Four year degree in accounting or similar field from an accredited college or university
- Detail oriented individual who will be responsible for the research and investigation of transactional level detail
- Ability to make accurate and timely decisions
- Review the work of the accounting staff and provide the team the necessary resources to complete their work efficiently
- Supervisory and project management experience with a focus on residential and commercial property management accounting strongly preferred (Gross Potential Rent, Straight-Line rent, etc)
- CPA preferred
- Experience with public accounting firm preferred
- Yardi experience preferred
- Knowledge of all core accounting principles and best practices, including US GAAP
- Supervisory and leadership skills to assess, coach, develop and manage performance of others
- Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills
- Detail oriented individual with ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with multiple deadlines
- Strong planning, organizational, quantitative and problem solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
