Director of Payroll
Responsibilities
The Payroll Director will plan, coordinate and manage the responsibilities of the Payroll department. They will oversee a team of payroll specialists, payroll accounting and payroll taxes for the company; assist in external and internal audits related to payroll and responsible for making sure that the payroll department is adhering to company policies, and state and federal regulations.
Supervises: 2 team members
Essential Job Functions:
- Manages the company payroll function which includes payroll processing, payroll taxes, reviewing and revising payroll specific policies and procedures, as well as internal SOX controls.
- Ensures payroll and tax payments comply with all applicable federal, state and local tax laws.
- Serves as key resource for payroll preparation/inquiries during periodic internal/external audits.
- Ensures payroll staff are properly trained and provides key leadership and mentoring to enhance performance, quality and productivity; creates training and development opportunities.
- Ensures year-end W-2 processing is timely, accurate, and complete.
- Maintains necessary vendor relationships.
- Continuously looks for ways to enhance and or streamline payroll processes; timeliness and compliance reporting; identifies and implements improvements.
Requirements
A valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance is required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred but not required.
- CPP certification preferred.
- At least seven (7) years of payroll administration experience and at least five (5) years of payroll management experience required.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of standard payroll methodologies, payroll regulations, state wage/tax law and recording keeping/administration required.
- Has experience with reporting stock compensation and related taxes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to interact professionally at all levels in the organization.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook; experience with Workday HCM highly preferred.
