Director of Investment Systems

Job Description

A fully-integrated national multifamily investment, development, and property management company is looking for a Senior Director, Investment Systems in its Corporate office located in Charleston, SC. to lead the global planning, development, coordination, and implementation of investment management technology systems, projects, and programs for the Company.

This position will play a pivotal, technology-centric role in international expansion initiatives. The Director of Investment Systems also ensures that systems meet established operating, financial, and technical criteria and drive the reporting of metrics that measure the overall performance of the Company. The ideal candidate will possess both a strong background in real estate investment management and real estate investment management technologies (such as Yardi IM, Investran). The Director, Investment Systems will report up through the global Information Technology group and will be the primary liaison between Investment Management and IT. Job Responsibilities:

  • Implements and maintains information systems software programs for the organization by analyzing current and future computer and system needs, purchasing necessary applications, licenses, and resources, and installing, configuring, and troubleshooting systems as necessary.

  • Acts as liaison with management and property teams by conducting regular communication to discuss computer and systems initiatives, design requirements, determine objectives and deliverables, and provide follow-up and training results to ensure system consistency and integrity and ascertain if needs are being met to enable employees and the organization to achieve performance requirements.

  • Researches, selects, and manages third-party partners as necessary to support training or system maintenance needs, develops technical documentation, end-user training manuals and support documents, and provides user training and support for existing users.

  • Provides qualitative analysis for the information systems direction of the Company in data mining, warehousing, and reporting to ensure consistency and compatibility of systems across the organization, and facilitates the integration of the information systems programs and equipment of mergers and acquisitions.

  • Supervises team members by interviewing, hiring, orienting, and training employees, and manages their performance in accordance with Company policies, values, and business practices.

  • Participates in and oversees systems aspects related to proposed take-overs, develops and implements project plans to ensure smooth integration and systems/data conversion, and assists in systems upgrades as needed.

  • Completes various human resources, financial, administrative, and other reports and analysis, and performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.

Organizational Responsibilities:

  • Follows established policies and procedures by monitoring and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and operational processes related to area(s) of responsibility and reporting violations or infractions to appropriate individual(s).

  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with Company, property, and departmental policies, procedures, and standards by immediately reporting any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, employee/visitor/resident injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to appropriate individual(s).

  • Identifies areas for improvement and offers suggestions to improve efficiency and productivity.

  • Keeps abreast of current changes in technology, processes, and standards within the industry and area(s) of responsibility by attending internal and external training classes, research and/or subscribing to the internet or other professional publications, or utilizing other appropriate method(s) to obtain business and professional information, and applies knowledge and practices to area(s) of responsibility.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • College degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or related field required.

  • Thorough, broad knowledge of end-to-end business processes facilitated by Investment Systems.

  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining Investment Systems for a large global company preferred. Real Estate-specific experience in this type of role desired.

  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and communicate effectively to create and make presentations to senior managers and staff, and to design and execute Investment Systems projects, programs and processes.

  • High degree of proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database management programs necessary to complete required reports, evaluate applications and systems, and produce necessary communication materials.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in business applications used by the Company, computer operating systems, and database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs sufficient to maintain, troubleshoot, and install as needed.
