Semi-Skilled Laborer

Under the direct supervision of the Site Manager, the Semi-Skilled Laborer performs general manual labor and semi-skilled and/or unskilled work in the maintenance and upkeep of the Agency's buildings and/or grounds.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND SUPPORT/GUIDANCE EXERCISED
• Receives direct supervision from the Site Manager.
• Receives lead direction from Lead Maintenance Staff
• Receive functional guidance and training from higher level staff
• May provide technical and directional guidance to other maintenance staff and trainees
Essential Areas of Responsibility: Performs a variety of general manual labor and semi-skilled and/or unskilled work related to maintenance and cleaning of Agency buildings and grounds which may include:
General Facility Upkeep and Maintenance
With prior experience and/or in-house training, assist other maintenance staff or work independently, as assigned, to:
• Minor repair and installation of doors, furniture, counter tops, cabinets, shelving, floor tile and other carpentry items
• Drywall repair
• Repair and installation of locks and hardware
• Repair and troubleshooting of gate controllers, call systems, video surveillance, and alarms
• Window coverings repair such as screens, blinds and drapes
• Performs routine preventative maintenance.
• Use a computer or hand-held device to input job data, code and track invoices, write correspondence and prepare reports
• Sweep, vacuum and wash floors, walls, counter-tops, cabinets, etc.
• Move and deliver furniture, materials and equipment
• Clean, deliver and install appliances
• Stock and maintain work vehicle
• Maintain inventory and order supplies
• Operate and maintain hand and power tools and equipment
• Identify maintenance needs and refer items as needed
• Perform general grounds maintenance repairs to sprinkler and other irrigation systems
• Carries away debris for eventual disposal as instructed. Maintains grounds free of debris.
• Visually inspects hallways and common places and eliminates any obstacles to free passage and ensures that adequate lighting is provided at all times.
• Washes and waxes floor surfaces, walls and ceilings.
• Performs repairs to water closets and drains.
• Lifts, loads and unloads heavy objects, such as stoves and refrigerators, into and out of trucks using proper equipment and assistance from other staff when necessary.
• Reports any unsafe or hazardous conditions encountered or observed on or in any Agency property or building.
• Uses a variety of small hand tools and implements such as rakes, shovels, brooms, mops, pliers, hedge clippers, power mowers, vacuum cleaners, etc.
• Assists department staff where and when needed. This may include assisting with lifting, loading and unloading heavy objects such as stoves and refrigerators into and out of vehicles.
• Performs other duties as required including work in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise balance the workload
Education & Experience:
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION GUIDELINES:Any combination of experience and education that would be likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities could be qualifying, as determined by the Agency. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Two (2) years experience in the maintenance and upkeep of buildings and/or grounds.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school, or possession of an equivalent certificate or diploma recognized by the State of California (e.g. G.E.D.).

Salary: $15.51 hourly
